Experience
Throughout this Dissertation module, I have undergone an intensive process of research. Back in Design Research Methodology, I was required to write a research paper from zero, which involved conducting a survey and analyzing data to answer my research objectives. This process was exhausting, likely because my background is not in writing. However, this module is important because it teaches us the fundamental ways to create a research paper. I never expected to be doing this until the dissertation stage. While it is a challenging module, it is important for my future. Out of the four tasks, I enjoyed task two the most, likely because it was design-related and did not require such extensive research.
Observation
I observed a slight different from Design Research Methodology and Dissertation. This module really heavy on research, which lead me to read a lot of references and paper from different author just to make sure that all of my research was done and align with other findings. Additionally, in task 2, I noticed that I enjoyed it more than the actual writing. Designing a layout for a book, really was fun but hard at the same time. This means that my engagement is highest when the research feels applied to a creative outcome rather than just purely theoretical.
Finding
I learned how to cite academic sources correctly and how to relate that information back to my own study. This module focused heavily on Chapter 2, which is the Literature Review. Because the research requirements were so intensive, it significantly improved my writing skills. I am now more used to writing, and I feel confident in finding multiple sources and connecting them to my research. These skills will be helpful for my future work. I hope that these findings allow me to improve my writing and produce even better research papers in the future.
