4. Task 3 - Type Expression and Application (Blog click here)

11/06/2025 - 16/07/2025 ( Week 8 - Week 13)

My font features bold characters with minimal spacing, giving it a strong visual presence. Inspired by retro-futurism, I used the aesthetic of the popular classic game Tetris into the design. This combination combines nostalgic elements from the past with a futuristic touch, reflecting the feel of retro-futurism while enhancing the visual identity of the font.

HONOR Competition
The submission for the Honor Competition couldn't be submitted because the category I chose was not available in the submission form. Due to the deadline, I wasn't able to change the design I had already created. Below is the final outcome design for Standby category.

5. Reflection

Experiences
This module has taught me many things I had never done before. I became more experienced with Adobe Illustrator thanks to the tasks we completed. Each design challenge pushed me to a new level. In Task 1, we were asked to create a typographic system, which introduced us to the basics of typography. Continue on that, we later created a poster based on an image, and from that image, we extracted letters, a technique I never imagined was possible. In Task 2, we created our own wordmark. This task allowed me to develop a personal identity through my design. Expanding on the wordmark by applying it to real-life uses was also an enjoyable experience, as it gave me a sense of how my design could exist beyond the screen. Lastly, in Task 3, I created an entire font for use. It was hard, since so many fonts already exist, I needed to create one that was different. This required a lot of exploration but I found it quite fun because I can explore a lot of unique font that people already made. Developing the font presentation and its applications was even more exciting, as I got to explore different aesthetics and creative directions.

Observations
Throughout the module, I observed how each design task helped me build upon the previous one, guiding me step by step from basic concepts to more complex execution. I also noticed that design is not just about creativity, but about solving visual problems with intention and clarity. Through these observations, I learned a new approach to designing and thinking more critically about my work.

Findings
Although I had a lot of fun, I also faced many challenges. Creating a unique and effective design is never easy, but through this process, I learned to think creative. I discovered the value of feedback, and how important it is to experiment and trust the design process. Overall, this module helped me improve significantly, not only in technical skills but also in design thinking. It has prepared me to approach future design projects with more confidence and creativity.
